Try Again (One-Shot)

"5, 6, 7, 8!" Marissa shouted and the people behind her danced to the music.

"Great job guys! See you tomorrow." she said after rehearsal then they all left.
"So, you hungry? I'm starving!" her friend Eve said as she tied her shoelaces.
"Nando's?"
"Definitely!"
As they walked down the school hallway, a tall, curly-haired jock suddenly bumped into Marissa.
"Sorry, shortstuff. Didn't see you there. Watch where you're going next time, eh?" he said in a smug voice.
"Maybe you should watch where you're going! What an asshole." Marissa said and pulled Eve and walked away.
The boy raised an eyebrow as he watched their figures fade in the dark hall.
"Do you know that girl?" he asked his other jock friend.
"No, I just know she's from the dance team." he answered.

"Why are these jocks such jerks?" Marissa murmured as she started the engine of her car.
"Particularly the captain, Harry Styles." Eve added.
"I wanna throw a basketball at his face! He's just... Ugh!"
"Relax, babe. Don't mind him, all he cares about is basketball."
"And that's why he's a jerk, because that's all he cares about! Psshhh. Jocks."

As Marissa entered the classroom the next day, she spotted Harry with his feet up on the desk in front of him, looking as smug as ever, flirting with the girls.
"Hey shortstuff! Didn't know we have the same class!" he greeted and winked.
Marissa's eyes narrowed, "What are you doing here? I never saw you in this class" she said angrily.
"I was transferred for reasons..."
"Did you beat up the nerds because they didn't let you copy their math homework?" she asked sarcastically.
The girls beside Harry giggled, but he frowned and didn't answer.

"Good morning, class. Please get your textbooks and answer page 34 to 36." Their teacher suddenly entered and Marissa was glad that she didn't have to hear Harry speak again.
Harry was sitting a few seats away from Marissa. He can't help but gaze over her every now and then.
"Yes, Mr. Styles? Who are you looking at? Are you done answering?" the teacher asked.
"Uh, no. I was just... Nevermind."
Harry reached for his phone in his pocket and hid it behind his book to text his friend: "What's her name again?"
"Marissa Roberts." his friend answered.

"Mr. Styles! Are you texting in my class?! You are still under probation and you know that! Detention after class!"
Harry rolled his eyes, "I'm in detention every week ma'am. I'm used to it." he murmured, hoping she wouldn't hear.
"Oh, so you don't want detention then? I have the perfect place for you. I'll talk to you after class."
Harry grabbed his book and slammed it on his face.
"Oh great." he murmured.

"Where are we going, Mrs. Delani?" Harry asked his teacher as she lead him through the hallway.
"The gym? We don't even have practice today." he whispered.
Mrs. Delani opened the door and pulled Harry's sleeve so they would both enter at the same time.

"NO FREAKING WAY!!!!" Marissa shouted.
"This is not acceptable! I don't want him in this crew!!! I don't wanna be with him in general!" she continued in rage and stomped her foot.
"The feeling is mutual." Harry said and crossed his arms.
"This is only temporary, Marissa. He has to learn how to discipline himself. If he doesn't learn this routine in a week, he'll be permanently removed from the basketball team." Mrs. Delani explained.
"WHAT?! You can't do that! I can't even dance! And you're giving me just a week?! What the fu..."
"Watch your words, Mr. Styles. My decision is final. You'll have to rehearse everyday."
Mrs. Delani walked away and left the gym, leaving Marissa's dance group and Harry behind.
"Your appearance makes me sick and I hate you with a fiery passion, Styles." Marissa said directly staring at Harry's eyes, their faces close to each other.
"That's really cute, shortstuff. Shall we start?" Harry mocked and Marissa clenched her fist wanting to punch him in the face.

"This sucks! I can't learn this routine in a week!!" Harry shouted from behind the line of dancers.
"Shut up, Styles! You better learn this or I'll kick your ass!" Marissa shouted back.

After rehearsal, Marissa was the last one to leave the gym.
"Hey, Marissa." Harry whispered leaning on the wall near the gym door.
"Wow, I didn't even know you knew my name, asshole." Marissa said as she tried to walk away.
"Wait! Do you have rehearsal tomorrow? I mean... We."
"No, you and your basketball freaks have practice in the gym."
"I'm temporarily off the team because of what I did so..."
"Sucks for you, Styles."
"Uh, can you maybe.... Rehearse with me tomorrow? I mean.. If you're not doing anything after class..."
"And since when did you suddenly become nicer? Oh that's right, when you need something from me. Fine, whatever. Meet me at the music room at 4:30 tomorrow. Don't be late."
"Thanks shortstuff!"
Marissa rolled her eyes as he watched Harry walk swiftly through the hall.

"Wow, I'm impressed! It's not even 4:30 yet!" Marissa said to Harry who was sitting against the wall in the music room.
"I just want to get this over with." he whispered.

"Step forward, then back and dougie from left to right." Marissa explained.
"Like this?"
Marissa giggled at Harry trying to dance the dougie.
"Hey! Don't laugh! I can't do it!"
"Then try again! Come here, let me show you."
Marissa stood behind Harry and grabbed both his arms, "now move your shoulders like this..."
Harry noticed how close Marissa was. He could smell her perfume and feel the touch of her soft hands. Goosebumps all around his body, he couldn't help but gaze behind him and look at her.

"You okay, Styles?" she asked.
"Uh, yeah. Can you play the music please?" That was the best excuse he could make.
Marissa reached for her iPod and picked a song. Slow music started playing, but she tried to look for another song to fit the dance.
"Wait, don't change the song." Harry said. Marissa raised an eyebrow at him.
Harry walked towards her and grabbed her arm.
"I can't dougie, but I can slow dance." he whispered and smiled. Marissa was mesmerized by his perfect smile, and was slightly turned on by the fact that he could slow dance.
Harry placed both her hands behind his neck as he placed his on her waist. They swayed across the room, not really caring about anything. They were looking at each others' eyes and smiling the whole time.
When the song ended, Harry looked down and bit his lip.
"Um, I'm sorry about... Being such a jerk to you." he whispered.
"I'm not really like that, I swear. Give me a chance?" he continued and offered a handshake.
Marissa smiled and nodded. She grabbed his hand, but pulled it so their faces would be as close to each other as possible. She leaned in for a quick kiss on the cheek, "Fine, but don't ruin your chance."
Harry smiled and hugged Marissa tightly.
"I won't." he whispered.

Dr. Styles

Chapter 1

"Congratulations, graduates!" the announcer shouted with a smile. Toga hats were all thrown in the air and everyone clapped with joy.

"Congratulations, Valerie!" We're officially nurses!" Valerie's best friend Megan said and hugged her tight.
"Congratulations to you too, M! We're not nurses yet though, we still have a board exam to pass!" Valerie answered and Megan rolled her eyes.
"Well the point is, we graduated! Finally!" The both jumped in sync.
"Congrats, babe!" Megan's boyfriend Zayn said behind her with a bouquet in his hands. She smiled and gave Zayn a tight hug and quick kiss as she accepted the flowers.
Valerie went over to her family and they congratulated her.
"I'm so proud of you, honey!" her mom Janet said and kissed her on the cheek. Everyone else gave her more hugs, kisses and handshakes.
"Alright, enough of this. I'm hungry! Let's go eat dinner!" Valerie's little brother Conor said and they all laughed.

Chapter 2

"Head's up!" Zayn shouted at their friend Niall as he kicked the football really far.
"What's wrong with you, man?! I can't run that fast!" Niall shouted as he crossed his arms. Zayn, Megan, and Valerie laughed.
"Sorry, mate! I'm not good at this sport!" Zayn shouted back still laughing. Niall shook his head and walked towards the ball to get it.

"So when's the board exam again, V?" Megan asked as she flipped through the pages of the latest Vogue magazine while laying on the field grass.
"In a month. Have you even started studying?"
"Sort of. I've re-read a few chapters of my science books. You?"
"Yeah a bit. I'm so nervous, I want this job so bad!"
"Psshh, you're included in the top 10, miss Valerie Carter!"
"That doesn't matter, miss Megan Edwards!" They both laughed at the way they had to state their full names at each other. Zayn and Niall approached them to ask if they're hungry.
"I wanna eat at Nando's!" Niall said in an excited voice.
"We always eat at Nando's because of you, Nialler." Megan said and patted his head like a puppy. Niall gave her a look and furrowed his eyebrows.
"In a good way! Come on guys, Nando's it is!"

"What do you guys want to order?" Zayn asked.
"The usual. We'll all have what Niall will have." Valerie answered and patted Niall's shoulder. Zayn nodded and started ordering.
"Where's Alice? Haven't heard from her all day," Megan asked Niall.
"Oh, she's busy at work. I called her earlier and she told me to pick her up before 8."
"Wow, demanding girlfriend?" Valerie joked.
"Nah, I like the fact that she's the boss." Niall said. Megan and Valerie nodded. The food was served and they started eating.

"What time is it?" Niall asked.
"7:30." Zayn answered looking at his watch.
"I gotta go, guys. My lady will be waiting at the coffee shop near her office. Bye!" Niall wore his jacket and waved goodbye.
"My lady?" Valerie whispered and they all laughed.

Chapter 3

"2 days... I can do this!" Valerie thought to herself as she pointed at the huge calendar behind her bedroom door. The date was encircled with a red marker so she won't forget about the exam. She sighed and closed her eyes before walking back to her study table. Her phone rang as she sat back down.
"Hey girl, what's up? Why aren't you studying?!" It was Megan on the other line.
"I was! But I decided to browse through a few job websites and found out that Holmes Chapel General Hospital is looking for new nurses! That hospital is damn high class, V!"
"Honey, we haven't even passed the board exam and you're already looking for a job?"
"Well, of course we gotta start early somehow! You'll never know we might get the job!"
"Can we talk about that after the exam? I have to study, I'll call you tomorrow okay?"
"Fine. Talk to you soon, V. Good night!" After they hung-up, deep inside Valerie felt excited and nervous at the same time but couldn't figure out why. She shook her head and started studying again.

"Cerebral hemisphere, Thalamus, Hypothalamus..." she read trying to master the parts of the brain which was literally making her head hurt. She gave up and decided to go to sleep.

Chapter 4

Valerie's alarm clock beeped at 6am. Finally the day of the exam, she thought feeling nervous.
"Good morning, honey! You ready for the test?" her mom asked as she poured a some juice in her cup and placed her breakfast on the table.
"I think... I don't know." Valerie answered.
"You can do it, sis! I know you can!" Conor sneaked up behind her and tickled her.
"Stop it! Thanks bro" she said as she caught Conor's hands to stop him from tickling her.

"Hey, M! You ready?" Valerie met Megan and Zayn in front of the building.
"Uh, next question please!" Megan joked.
"You'll do great, babe. I'll pick you up later. Call me after the test." Zayn said and gave Megan a quick kiss.
"Oh, do you wanna ride with us later V?" Zayn asked.
"I brought my car, no worries." Valerie answered and waved at him.

"The exam will start in a few minutes, everyone." The proctor announced and there was silence in the room. Megan and Valerie wasn't taking the test in the same room so Valerie had no one to talk to. Megan texted Valerie "Geez, people in here are too serious. It's worse than a library in here!" Valerie covered her mouth to stop herself from laughing and texted back "Same!" was all she could text because the exam was about to start.

"So, how was it?" Zayn met the girls at the parking lot and wrapped his arms around Megan.
"It was... Okay... Average..." Megan sounded unsure.
"Except for the Chemistry part. I hate that subject." Valerie said and Megan nodded.
"The Biology part was easier," Megan added.
"Well I'm sure you'll pass!" Zayn tried to convince the girls to lessen their nervousness.
"I need a cup of coffee. Let's go to Starbucks." Valerie said and sighed.

Chapter 5

"Valerie!!! Valerie wake up!!! Valerie Leighton Carter!!!!" Megan's loud voice mail woke up Valerie at 7am on a Saturday morning.
"What do you want, Megan?" she answered grumpily in a low and sleepy voice.
"WE PASSED THE EXAM!!!!" Megan shouted. Valerie's eyes widened a huge smile formed on her face.
"Really?! You're not kidding, right?!"
"Of course I'm not! I checked my e-mail this morning and read the results! Oh, and sorry I had to hack your account as well..."
"I don't care if you hacked my account! I just need to know if it's true!"
Valerie grabbed her laptop and opened her e-mail at once. Her jaw dropped as she read the words and finally believed that she passed the exam.
"Yes!!!! WE DID IT MEGAN!! WE PASSED!!!!" she shouted as tears fell from her eyes and started jumping on her bed. Her mom peeked through the door to see what was happening.
"Mom! I passed the exam!!! Look!"
"Congratulations nurse Valerie!!!!" her mom said as she gave her a tight hug. Hearing her say "nurse Valerie" was a great feeling and she couldn't be happier.
"Party at my place tonight!" Megan shouted through Valerie's phone.

Valerie arrived at Megan's house and heard loud music coming from her backyard. As she entered, everyone saw her and shouted "Congrats Valerie!!!" she flashed a huge grin and Megan hugged her. Niall, Alice and Zayn walked towards them and they all hugged.
"Nurse Valerie and nurse Megan. I like it!" Alice said and winked.

"Thanks for tonight, Megan! Congrats to you both!" Niall said and shook their hands before leaving. Alice waved goodbye and gave a flying kiss before closing the door.
Megan and Valerie sat down on the couch, tired but still feeling happy.
"So... Holmes Chapel General Hospital?" Megan asked and winked.
"I already got my resume!" Valerie joked and smiled.

Chapter 6

"Earth to Valerie!" Megan shouted.
"What?"
"You should just chill, V. We can do this!"
Valerie started biting her nails as she walked around the hospital lobby. Megan just flipped through the pages of a newspaper she found on the small table across her.
"Miss Valerie Carter and miss Megan Edwards?" a voice spoke from behind them.
They turned around and saw a curly-haired boy with green eyes and a perfect white smile.
"Hi, I'm Dr. Styles. I'll show you the way to Dr. Wilson's office, the head doctor," he said and showed the way. Valerie bit her lip and thought about how Dr. Styles could be a doctor but he looked too young.

"Good morning, ladies. I'm Dr. Wilson, head doctor of Holmes Chapel General Hospital. Have a seat."
Dr. Styles smiled one last time at the girls and left.

"So I reviewed your resumes and I was quite impressed by both of you. Miss Carter, I've read here that you're on the honor's list?"
Valerie nodded nervously.
"And Miss Edwards, your recommendation form signed by your Chemistry teacher said that you're a very fast worker. Very good!"
Megan flashed a smile and nodded once.
Dr. Wilson looked at the papers again and returned it inside the envelopes. He stood up and shook Valerie's hand, then Megan's as well.
"Congratulations, nurse Carter and nurse Edwards. You got the job!"
Their jaws dropped and huge grins formed on their faces.
"Thank you so much, Dr. Wilson! You have no idea how much this means to us! Thank you, thank you!" Valerie said in excitement.
"Yes, thank you! We won't let you down! This is our dream job!" Megan added and shook his hand again.
"I believe that you ladies have potential, and don't worry, you'll be training with the best doctors. Work starts tomorrow at 8am sharp. Don't be late!"
"Yes sir!"

Beep! Beep! Valerie stopped at Megan's house to pick her up.
"Hey V! Can we grab some breakfast on the way? We ran out of eggs this morning. My mum ate the last one."
"Sure thing. We'll pass by at McDonald's."

"Good morning, Dr. Wilson." Megan greeted as she opened his office door.
"Good morning, nurse Edwards and nurse Carter. Are you ready to train? You'll be staying for the night."
The girls nodded in sync and Dr. Styles entered the room.
"Ah, Dr. Styles! Perfect timing! These are the new nurses I hired: nurse Carter and nurse Edwards."
"I've seen you both yesterday, right? Nice to meet you again." Dr. Styles answered and shook their hands.

Dr. Styles showed Valerie and Megan around the hospital. "And this is the locker room. You can get your uniforms in locker 16 and 17." Dr. Styles said. Valerie nodded and smiled and hopefully she thought he understood that it was a simple thank you.

At lunch break, the girls sat at the cafeteria full of doctors, nurses and few visitors.
"This place is huge! I've never been in here," Megan reacted.
"I've been here once, when my brother was born. I honestly don't remember the place because it was so long ago. And this is quite far from home." Valerie said and bit her ham and cheese sandwich.
"You're right. A 30-minute drive every other day off or something? It's gonna be hard."
"Hi! You must be the new nurses?" A voice suddenly spoke and a red-haired girl sat beside them.
"I'm nurse Moore. But you can call me Brie." she said and offered a handshake.
"Hi, I'm Valerie Carter and this is Megan Edwards. Nice to meet you Brie." Valerie said nicely. A few other nurses came to their table and they all introduced themselves. Valerie and Megan started to feel comfortable around them already and the day was going great.

"Ah, there you are nurse Carter! I need you to assist me in room 117. Are you good with children?" Dr. Styles asked as he was checking the clipboard he was holding.
"I guess so... I have a little brother, hopefully that's enough experience." Valerie said.
"Good to hear, then." Dr. Styles smiled a little.

"Hi, Frankie! I'm Dr. Styles, and this is nurse Carter." he tried to greet the blonde boy sitting on the bed as friendly as possible. He started checking his pulse rate while Valerie was trying to distract him.
"You know, I beat my brother and his friends on NBA2K12! No joke!" Valerie said with pride.
"Seriously? You're so cool! Can you please be my sister!?" the boy joked. Valerie saw a smile form on Dr. Styles' face while writing on the papers attached on the clipboard. His eyes met Valerie's eyes and she blushed, feeling a little embarrassed that she still plays video games.

"Good job on your first day, ladies. I'm proud of you!" Dr. Wilson greeted Valerie and Megan, passing down the hallway where a few nurses and doctors were sitting down.
"You guys wanna go get coffee or something? Starbucks is just around the corner, we can chill there for a while." Brie suggested. They all agreed and removed their white coats and nurse's uniforms and wore their jackets.

The other nurses were talking at the other table while Dr. Styles, Brie, Valerie, Megan and a few others sat on the table across them.
"How long have you been working at the hospital, Dr. Styles?" Megan asked.
"Call me Harry," Dr. Styles suddenly said.
"Oh okay then. So Harry, how long have you been working here?"
"This is actually my second year as an intern," The girls nodded. Brie leaned on Harry's shoulder and kissed him on the cheek.
"And we've been together for a year," Brie whispered and winked. Valerie frowned a little, but couldn't figure out why.

2am and everyone was resting in the spare room of the hospital. The boy nurses were fooling around, throwing the basketball-shaped pillow across the room.
"I didn't know he wasn't single." Valerie whispered.
"Who? Harry?" Megan asked and Valerie nodded.
"It's just that he didn't act like he was in a relationship at all, it's just weird."
Megan's phone rang and saw that it was Zayn checking up on her. She tapped Valerie's knee and stepped outside to take the call. Valerie sighed and still had that strange feeling inside her.

Chapter 7

"So where are you from, nurse Carter?" Harry asked while he was checking his paperwork, and Valerie was washing the lab tools.
"I'm from the city. It's quite hard living there and I have to travel here in Holmes Chapel every day off or so..."
"Have you ever thought of moving in town? I can help you find a place here." Harry suggested.
"Really? You wouldn't mind?"
"Of course! I'll take you around the city on our day-off, you can ask nurse Edwards to come too."
"And uh... You can ask Brie to come, I guess?" Valerie asked awkwardly.
"I don't think so. She hates apartment hopping."
Valerie nodded once and continued washing the tools. She still hasn't figured out why their conversations become awkward when talking about Brie.

"Welcome to Holmes Chapel, ladies!" They drove around the town in Harry's car and searched for apartments.
"This looks great!" Megan shouted pointing at the bare walls of the 3rd apartment they saw.
"Yeah, it does. And it's only about 10 minutes away from the hospital. Very convenient." Harry said.
"I like it, I really do." Valerie said quickly and clapped her hands.
"Oh look! There's a park nearby as well! I can take my nephews here some time!" She added as they all looked out the window. They walked towards the park to check it out. There wasn't any children when they came, so they decided to fool around and play like 5-year olds.
Valerie ran to the swing and held on tight as Harry pushed her. Megan was trying to cross the monkey bars across them, but she suddenly stopped. She crossed her arms and sat down, looking closely at them. She tilted her head a little and smiled. She realized Valerie had a different look on her face. She hasn't seen that expression in years. She looked extremely happy. Maybe it was the adrenaline rushing through her, or she just felt that comfortable around Harry.

"I never had this much in like, forever!" Harry said putting his hands under his head laying on the grass.
"Me too, I feel young again!" Valerie joked and they all chuckled.
"I'm glad I met you," Harry whispered and looked at Valerie. Megan raised an eyebrow at Harry.
"I meant the both of you! I'm glad I met you and Valerie, miss Megan!" Megan chuckled and messed up Harry's hair.
"Well, we're glad we met you too, Dr. Curly" Megan said sarcastically and laughed again. Valerie just smiled and bit her lip.

"So what do you think about the apartment? Are we taking it?" Megan asked.
"Yeah, it's really nice. I'll call the former owner and we'll move by next week?" Valerie answered and took out her phone. Megan nodded.

"Valerie? I have something to ask you." Megan said in a low voice.
"What is it? If it's about Zayn's hair again, I can't help!"
"Hey! His hair is awesome! I told him to keep it that way. But seriously, V. Uh... You and Harry have been really close for the past few weeks. Do you... I mean..."
"Do I what? We're close friends, that's all." Valerie lied.
"Whatever you say, girl."
Valerie rolled her eyes. What have gotten into Megan to ask such a thing? She thought to herself.

Chapter 8

"I need some advice. If I ask Heather out, you think she'll go out with me?" Ian, their fellow nurse, asked as they ate their lunch at the cafeteria.
"Well, we can't really answer that. You'll have to find out yourself." Megan replied.
"Okay, so describe me then. You think my personality is enough for her?"
"Yeah, I guess so. You're nice and funny." Valerie said.
"Really? You think so?"
"No, I was joking. Your pick-up lines need some updating, man!" They all laughed and Ian crossed his arms and pouted like a kid.
"Hey guys, what's going on?" Harry said placing his tray on the table.
"Where's Brie?" Valerie just had to ask.
"Assisting Dr. Wilson at surgery. They just started so it might take a while." Harry answered.
"Anyway, we were giving Ian some advice about the ladies. Particularly miss brunette over there." Megan secretly pointed at the other table.
"Well, Dr. Styles. Do you have any advice?"
"Uh, act natural? I'm not really good at this stuff."
"Maybe what Harry's trying to say is, you should be yourself around her. Try to get to know her more, and if you feel that she might be interested, give it your best shot. If she refuses, then it means you're not meant to be. Simple as that." Valerie explained. Harry looked at her and smiled sweetly, impressed by her advice.
"Oh, and you should avoid the pick-up lines, dear. I don't think she can handle that." she added and everyone chuckled again, including Harry.

"Drive safely, sweetheart. I love you." Megan said to Zayn during their conversation on the phone.
"Where is he going?" Valerie asked.
"He's going to DJ at this club on Friday. I'm not familiar with the place, but he said it was far."
"He's leaving tonight? It's raining hard."
"He has to be there early because of reservation issues."
Valerie nodded and continued replacing the bed sheet with a new one.

"Nurse Valerie, I've heard you're good with kids. Can you help me out?" an intern, Dr. Georgia interrupted.
"Yeah sure. See you later, M."

"Have you ever assisted in surgery?" Dr. Georgia asked Valerie.
"No, this will be my first."
"Oh okay, then. The kid's sort of paranoid and we can't calm her down."
"I'll take care of this, Dr. Georgia."
Valerie wore the scrub suit and and entered the operating room. She saw Harry inside, about to do the surgery.
"I can't do this! I want my mommy! Get me out of here!!!" the young girl shouted trying to escape from the table.
Valerie moved beside her and whispered, "imagine that these doctors are clowns, and all they're going to do is tickle you. Wouldn't that be awesome?"
The girl giggled, "that is sorta cool. Clowns can be so funny."
"Uh-huh, wanna hear a joke? What day is most hated by fish?"
"What?"
"Fry day" the girl giggled harder.
"I like you, can you take care of me after my operation?" she tugged on her scrub suit and smiled.
"Of course, now let's get these clowns tickling you so we can eat ice cream after."
The doctors all smiled at Valerie and put the girl to sleep.
"Good job, nurse Carter." Harry whispered and tapped her shoulder.

"Has anybody seen nurse Edwards?" Valerie wandered around the lobby, stretching her arms out because she was tired from surgery.
A loud bang of the entrance doors opened and a patient was rushed into the emergency room. Megan came running through behind them and hugged Valerie, crying hard.
"Megan, what happened?! Who was that?!"
"It's... Zayn! He... He... He lost control of the... Car... and crashed...." Megan was panting.
"Ssshhh." Valerie held her tight and rubbed her back.
"Everything will be alright. It's okay, Megan. I'm here."

2 hours, which felt like days of waiting at the lobby. Megan was curled up at the corner of the couch, her eyes were tired but couldn't fall asleep. Harry and Brie sitting across her and Valerie was leaning on the wall, biting her nails.

"He's alright. He just had a minor cut on the forehead and a broken arm. But he's fine." Dr. Wilson explained to Megan and Zayn's parents. Megan sighed in relief and placed her hands on her face.

"I'm staying with Zayn for a week, or until his arm is fully healed." Megan told Valerie, packing her bags.
"Oh okay then. I try to call you everyday if I could, M." They hugged and Valerie helped her bring the luggage to her car.
"See you soon. If you get a boyfriend, make sure to tell me first!" Megan joked and started the engine. Valerie waved one last time at Megan and she drove away. As much as she didn't want Megan to leave, she knew she cared about Zayn and just wants to take care of him. Valerie sighed at the empty street and wrapped her arms around herself and went inside.

Chapter 9

"I hate math, where the hell is the calculator?" Valerie asked computing the paperwork she was holding.
"In the left drawer near the computer." the accountant said also computing some paperwork.
"This is your job, Paige! You know I suck at this!" Valerie joked and leaned her head on the side of the table.

"Hey hey hey Valerie! Got a second?" Harry suddenly said and flashed a huge smile.
"You do know that other doctors can actually hear you calling me by my first name right? What's up with you, Styles?"
"Come here! I wanna tell you something!" Harry jumped and grabbed Valerie's hand. Valerie just realized how soft his hands were, she shook her head and focused on what he was going to say.
"I'm getting married to Brie"
Valerie's mouth hung open but before she could speak Harry broke her off. "Well, not yet. I mean, I still haven't asked her.... So... Uh... Can you help me out?"
"Uh, how?" Valerie said awkwardly.
"I don't really know how to tell her. I want it to be special."
"Well, take her to dinner and propose!"
"Too common! We need a better plan!"
"Do you even have the ring yet?"
"No."
"You can always use the iron ring at the lab. And there's an iron ring stand to hold it too!"
"Shut up, Valerie!" Harry chuckled and hit Valerie's arm gently.
"Fine, I'll help you." Valerie finally said even if she didn't want to. Harry grinned and hugged Valerie tight.
"Thank you so much!"

Valerie laid on her bed, her arms under her head thinking about Harry's favor. She hated the fact that she couldn't say no to Harry. So maybe Megan was right, she did sort of like Harry as more than a friend. But that was all it was ever gonna be. Just friends. She was sad thinking about it, and she'll even get more depressed once she starts helping him planning his engagement proposal.
Her life was a mess.

"So how about you take her to the carnival, then ride on a ferris wheel and propose?" Valerie suggested. They were literally at the carnival. Holmes Chapel sets up this huge carnival every Christmas season.
"That way she couldn't say no!" she joked.
"You are the meanest person I've ever met!" Harry said.
"Hey, I'm not mean! I'm trying to help you out here, Styles!" They laughed as they walked towards the bump cars line. They gave each other a look, "You're on!" Valerie shouted as she ran to the line and pulled Harry.

"That was unfair! You and that blonde boy hit my car on both sides!" Harry said.
"It's not my fault you're such a bad driver!" Valerie answered and giggled.
"I bet you a 100 bucks that I can drive better than you," Harry said protesting.
"Well surely I'm better at bump cars than you, curly." Valerie winked.

"Oh! I have another idea! Take her inside the haunted house then have one of the monsters hold the ring and give it to her at the exit!" Valerie said.
"Are you crazy, woman?! You'll give her a heart attack!" Harry shouted and Valerie laughed hard.
"Seriously, I think we better get out of this carnival before you come up with another silly idea."
"So where are we going then?" Valerie asked trying to stop herself from laughing again.
Harry smiled and grabbed Valerie's arm. "Come on, I know the perfect place."

Harry parked in front of a building, Valerie looked up to see how tall it was. She wondered where Harry was taking her. "Come on!" he said and grabbed her hand.
They rode the elevator and clicked the top floor. As it opened, they found themselves at the rooftop.
"Wow." Valerie mouthed. Harry pulled her hand again and he laid down on the concrete ground. He told her to do the same. She smiled at the sight of the beautiful stars in the night sky. She'd never seen so many in her life. It was amazing. As Valerie kept her eyes on the sky, Harry glanced at her. Her eyes were twinkling like the stars and her smile was soft. He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, and she glanced back at him still smiling. She bit her lip and he moved a bit closer.
Her smile faded, realizing how awkward it suddenly felt. She sat up and combed her hair using her fingers.
"Uh, so maybe you could take her to a planetarium or something... Then have people hold out banners with 'Will You Marry Me?'"
Harry sat up and frowned. "Yeah, that would be nice... I guess. I... I better call her" that was the only way to break the awkwardness between them. Valerie sat there in silence while Harry talked to Brie on the phone. She was slightly rocking back and forth, hugging her knees. Harry sighed when he hung-up.
"We better go, it's getting late." he said and Valerie nodded. Harry offered a hand to help her get up. Of course she took it, and as she stood up, Harry kept his hand on hers, their eyes locked on each other. Valerie pulled her hand away and slowly walked towards the door. He sighed and placed his hands in his pockets.

Chapter 10

"Valerie! We're having dinner at my cousin's place this weekend, please come! You can invite Harry and the others too!" Megan said through the phone.
"Sure! That would be great! How's Zayn by the way? Is he alright?"
"Yeah he's fine, we're actually babysitting his little sister right now."
"So you're a babysitter now, M?"
"Just for today! Hey, his mom's gonna pay us!"
"Good for you, babe! Well I gotta go back to work. See you on Saturday!"

"Was that Megan?" Harry asked as he entered the room. Valerie nodded.
"She invited us over to dinner this weekend at her cousin's place. Can you tell Brie and the others?"
"Sounds awesome! Okay, I'll tell them."

"You made it! Hi guys! Nice to see you again!" Megan greeted and hugged Valerie. Harry, Ian and the others stood behind them smiling.
"Thanks for inviting us, Megan." Harry said and kissed her on the cheek.
"No worries, I just miss all of you!"
"Brie will come a little late, Dr. Wilson asked her to do some paperwork." Harry added.

"Mom, these are my co-nurses and doctors," Megan introduced.
"Pleasure to meet you all! Buffet table is at the back." Megan's mom pointed to the backyard and they all walked over. Harry stood behind Valerie with his hand on her back as she lead the way.
"Help yourselves." Megan as she distributed plates to Valerie and the others.

"You have crumbs on your face," Harry pointed to Valerie's cheek and wiped it off.
"Thanks, Harry." she answered in a shy voice and pinched his nose.
"Ow!" he said and pinched her cheek back. They both laughed.
Megan was talking to her cousin but noticed their body language even from afar.
"Do you think they'd make a cute couple?" Megan asked.
"Wait, they're not together? I thought they were! They've been flirting the whole night!" her cousin said.
Megan just smiled and nodded.

Music started playing and people started dancing.
"I love this song! Come on V!" Megan pulled Valerie to the dance floor as Katy Perry's Last Friday Night played on full blast.
Harry stood by the buffet table with his hands inside his pockets, watching Valerie dance. He realized how beautiful she was in that pink dress and white heels she was wearing. Her long, dark hair bounced as she danced and her smile lit up the room.
"Hey, hottie. Wanna dance?" Brie suddenly said behind him.
"Brie! Glad you made it!" he greeted and kissed her gently on the lips. She pulled him to the dance floor and placed his hands on her waist.

Slow music played and the crowd split up to find partners. Zayn tapped Megan's back and offered a hand. Megan looked at Valerie and she nodded in approval. "I'll be by the buffet table, M. Have fun." she whispered.

Valerie sat down awkwardly and watched the crowd sway to the music. She had that warm feeling inside, because every couple on the dance floor was smiling and looking at each others' eyes. But at the same time, she felt alone.
"Hey, V. Would you like to dance?" Ian asked behind her and smiled. Valerie nodded and took his hand.
Valerie eyed Brie and Harry at the corner, their foreheads touched, his hands were firmly holding her waist, and she was smiling. Little did Valerie know that Harry wasn't smiling back.
As Valerie looked away, Harry saw her. Her eyes were sad, and she had an expressionless face. Harry decided to move closer to Valerie and Ian to switch partners.
"May I dance with you, Valerie?" he tapped her back and offered his hand.
"Only if Brie would approve," she said and looked at Brie.
"Yeah, of course! I can dance with Ian."

Harry held on to her waist and she held on to his neck. He felt shivers down his spine as he felt her fingertips slightly rubbing her neck. Harry pulled her a bit closer so their foreheads touched.
"Are you having a good time?" she whispered.
"I am now."
Valerie pulled back and raised her eyebrows at him.
"I am because.... Brie came." he said nervously and bit his lip."
She shook her head and grinned at him.
"Alright."

Chapter 11

"Nurse Carter, can you take a blood sample of Riley Beckham at the waiting area?" Harry asked Valerie.
"Yes, Dr." she said awkwardly and walked away.
Seeing her walk away, her petite figure and long locks swaying behind her.. He sighed as the figure faded as she got further away.
"Guess who?" Two hands covered Harry's eyes and he smiled. He turned around and hugged Brie tightly. She did see him watch Valerie walk away, "Was that nurse Carter?" she couldn't stop herself from asking.
"Uh, yeah. I just asked her to take care of a patient." Harry answered, hoping he didn't get caught staring at Valerie.
"Oh okay, see you at lunch then? I love you," Brie whispered and kissed his cheek and walked to the elevator. It felt different seeing Brie walk away. A feeling that was slightly fading, and another feeling starting to get stronger.

"Valerie! Zayn's mom got me a job at the local clinic, should I take it or...?" Megan said through the phone.
"If that's what you want, M."
"I don't wanna leave you, though. I feel bad."
"No, it's fine! Take the job! It's better if you're closer to Zayn anyway."
"Are you sure? I promise to visit you every now and then!"
"Yes, I'm sure! Say hi to Zayn's mom for me by the way."
"Alright, talk to you soon V!" And they hung-up. Valerie felt bad because she never told Megan about what was actually happening in Holmes Chapel.
She walked back inside the hospital and placed her phone in her pocket. As she walked to the cafeteria, she saw Brie and Harry eating together at the last table. Her eyes were stuck staring at Harry, and he looked back. Those green eyes directly looking at hers, but she forced herself to look away. Harry shook his head and tucked a strand of hair behind Brie's ear.
Valerie wasn't hungry, so she decided to skip lunch and sit by the corridor outside to get some fresh air.

"Hi." a voice said behind her.
She looked back, of course it was Harry.
"What are you doing here?" she asked.
"I'm thinking about buying the engagement ring this Saturday. Can you help me choose?"
Goosebumps triggered on her skin. "...Sure" was all she could say as she looked down.
They heard footsteps coming towards the corridor, "Oh hey guys, what are you doing here?" It was Brie.
"We were just talking about the patient earlier. I'm going to pick-up his x-ray at the lab right now." Valerie lied and hurriedly walked inside. Brie raised her eyebrow, "What was that all about?"
Harry didn't speak and just pulled her to kiss her forehead.

"I really like this one, the diamonds on it are beautiful!" Valerie pointed at the set of rings inside the glass container.
"Doesn't this one look better? There's a pearl at the middle, and Brie loves pearls." Harry said from the other side of the store.
"But you have to think outside of the box! And besides, she'll love anything you'll give her! It's an engagement ring duh?!"
"But still...."
"Geez Styles, make up your mind!" Valerie hit his arm and Harry stuck his tongue out.
"There are 3 stores left on the list, Harry. I'm hungry, can we go eat first?" Valerie suggested.

They sat down at Starbucks and ordered 2 croissants.
"I can tell this is going to be really messy when I bite it." Valerie said cutting her croissant with a knife and Harry giggled. Rain started poring down the window and Harry's eyes narrowed.
"Have you ever been kissed in the rain?" he randomly asked.
"No, I always wanted that though. I find it so romantic." Valerie answered, the side of her mouth full of crumbs. Harry chuckled softly at her face but wiped it off with tissue paper. Valerie blushed, "Uh.. Thanks."
"I wanna be kissed in the rain too, but Brie finds it so lame."
"Really? What's up with her? A kiss in the rain is every girl's dream! Have you watched The Notebook? Oh gosh, I wish I had a love story like that."
"I think I watched half of it with my sister Gemma, but I fell asleep."
"You gotta be kidding me, Styles! You cannot propose to Brie without finishing The Notebook!" Valerie demanded.
"Alright, fine. I'll watch it again. But I'm pretty sure Brie wouldn't enjoy it. She fell asleep when we watched Love Actually!"
"Watch alone then!" Valerie joked.
"No way! I need someone to keep me awake! Can you watch with me?"
"Fine, I'll make sure to give you 10 cups of coffee before the movie starts to keep you awake. Oh, and 1 extra cup to throw in your face just in case you fall asleep again." Valerie laughed and messed up Harry's curls.
"Deal." he said and shook her hand.

Harry knocked at Valerie's apartment door, "Who is it?" she asked.
"Pizza delivery!" he joked.
"Very funny Styles." she said and opened the door. Valerie was wearing a small tank top and short shorts.
"Oh, sorry." she grabbed her sweater and wore it quickly. Harry tried to stop himself from smiling but he just couldn't.
"I'll set up the movie in the living room."
"I'll bring the sodas and popcorn there okay?"
"Okay. The plates are inside the cabinet above the sink." Valerie's voice faded as she left the kitchen.
Harry walked in the living room and saw Valerie sitting on the couch. Her perfect figure sitting down, her feet on top of the coffee table. Harry sat awkwardly on the couch, a bit far away from her. He knew his limits, but he doesn't know how long he could control himself.

"I want all of you, forever. You and me everyday."

Harry found Valerie sniffing and wiping her eyes. He moved in closer to wipe her tears with his handkerchief. She felt his breath on her cheek as he wiped her eyes. She looked up and felt him move closer. She didn't pull back, instead she moved in, her nose slightly touching his.
"I can't..." she whispered and pushed him away gently. There was awkwardness around the room. They were sitting at both ends of the couch.
The credits started rolling, and Valerie finally moved to switch the lights on. Harry was still on the couch, his head down and eyebrows furrowed. Valerie sat beside him, "Sorry..." she whispered. He nodded once, "I gotta go. Thanks..." he whispered back and rubbed her shoulder.
He grabbed his coat and slowly opened the door. He looked back at Valerie and forced a smile.
When he left, Valerie felt like crying again. What happened? She asked herself.
Harry walked through the dark streets analyzing what he felt when their noses touched.

They both knew it was wrong, but it somehow felt right.

Chapter 12

"Okay, Mrs. Jenner, it looks like Gary's going to be alright. He just has a mild fever. Let him rest at home." Harry explained to the patient as Valerie stood behind them looking down and playing with the loose string on her uniform.
"Thank you so much, doctor." Mrs. Jenner said and shook his hand.
"No problem." The patient and his mom left and they were alone in the room. Harry looked at Valerie awkwardly, "About last night...." he started.
"I don't want to talk about it, Dr. Styles." she quickly said. "You have another patient at the lobby. I'll go call her." Valerie added before Harry could speak again. He sighed and leaned on the side of the desk crossing his arms.

Valerie walked towards the elevator with her head down. To be honest, she did want to talk about what happened last night, but just not right now. She liked him, she really did. But it still felt wrong.

Harry felt the same. He was falling hard for her. She was just... Different.

Someone knocked at the door, "hi." Brie whispered and peeked into the room where Harry stood alone.
"Hi." he whispered back.
"You okay? Are you busy?" she asked.
"No, I'm just waiting for my patient. Uh, what are you doing here?"
"I just wanted to see you..."
"Here I am, what's up?" Harry said and placed his hands on her waist.
"Nothing, I just miss spending time with you I guess."
"I'll take you to dinner tonight, if you're not busy. Deal?"
"Okay, deal." they smiled and kissed gently. Harry frowned when Brie left the room. He sort of had this guilt feeling inside him.

"I'm taking Brie out tonight," Harry whispered while Valerie was checking on the patient's pulse rate.
"Oh, great." she said sarcastically.
"Can you at least try and act like you care?" Harry muttered hoping Valerie wouldn't hear.
"What did you say? I do care, Harry!" Valerie said in rage and the patient's eyes widened in shock.
"Why are you yelling at me?" Harry asked.
"I'm not! It's just that I didn't really need to know!"
"I just wanted to tell you! Why are you so sensitive?!"

Valerie shook his and and walked out of the room.

Harry placed his hands on his head and gave a quick tug on his hair.
"You like her, don't you?" the patient suddenly asked and Harry turned to face her.
"I don't know... I have a girlfriend..." Harry answered and sat down.
"And you don't seem happy with her..."
"I don't know what to do anymore..." he whispered with his hands on his face.
"You're not planning on cheating, right?"
"No, of course not."
"Here's some advice: If you're not happy, just leave. Find something or someone who will make it all better."
The patient smiled at Harry and tapped his back.
"Thank you, ma'am." he said and forced a smile.

Valerie sat at the corridor with an expressionless face. She figured Harry and Brie would have been gone by now and are already eating dinner out. The thought bothered her for some reason. This might be the night he'll propose to Brie. Valerie's face started to feel hot. She was hurt by just thinking about it: Harry kneeling on one knee and asking "Will you marry me?" and seeing Brie's face light up and saying yes. It torn Valerie apart and a tear fell from her face. As she wiped it, she realized that she really is in love with him.

"Bye, Valerie. See you tomorrow." nurse Ian greeted and waved at her. The other nurses and doctors in the room waved too.
"Bye," she said in a low and tired voice.

Valerie placed her hands in her pockets, and as she walked down the street, he found Harry's car parked in front of her apartment.

Chapter 13

There was something about the way she looked at him. Whenever he's with her, everything feels alright. From a small spark to a flame, all he wanted was her, to be with her.

He was holding the box where the ring was kept. Rubbing the red, velvety texture between his fingers as memories came crashing through his mind.
He accidentally dropped the box, and the ring fell. He stared as it rolled further away from him, and it stopped as it hit the tip of familiar white shoes. He looked up and found Valerie standing by the door, her hair was messed up and her eyes were tired. She bent down to pick the ring up, but their hands touched it at the same time. She furrowed her eyebrows and gazed at him as he clenched his fist, holding the ring firmly. They stood up slowly, with the ring in place. He cupped her cheek with his other hand, she placed hers on his shirt pulling him closer. He felt her breath on his cheek as she pulled even tighter. He tilted his head and kissed her. As the kiss got more intense, their hands loosened and dropped the ring. His hands moved to the back of her head as hers were placed firmly on his cheeks.

Harry's mouth moved from her lips to her cheek, to her ear, then down her neck. Valerie moaned and giggled softly. She loved the feeling of her neck slightly getting tickled by his lips. But as his lips started moving down, her eyes opened in shock.
"Stop." she whispered as Harry's lips moved away from her shoulder and looked her in the eyes.
"What's wrong?" he whispered back.
"This. Everything about this is wrong." She pulled away and walked to the couch biting her nails.
"I'm sorry. I guess this is... Wrong." he said as he sat down at the end of the couch.
"But it does feel right somehow." he added in a soft whisper and she tilted her head in confusion.
"Valerie, can I tell you something?"
She didn't respond.
"What if... What if I tell you that I've realized some things these couple of weeks... And maybe those things involve you... And me."
Valerie slowly gazed at Harry's eyes, his expression was calm.
"The first time I've met you, the first time I saw you smile at Dr. Wilson's office, I already felt something. When I shook your hand, it's like I've held on to it for so long. The way you talk, the way you randomly say these sarcastic jokes, the way you act around kids and make them feel better, the way you make me laugh even during tough times...."

Valerie's frown turned into a smile as Harry explained.

"I've never felt this way before. I'm in love with you Valerie." Harry finally confessed. He bit his lip.

Her smile faded as she saw the ring on the floor. His eyes followed where she was looking and he clenched his fists.
She quietly stood up and picked the ring up again. She walked over to Harry, forced his hand to open and placed the ring on his palm.
"You have to leave. Please." Valerie begged as tears started forming in her eyes. Tears also formed on Harry's eyes, but he stood up and quickly walked out the door.

Valerie cried as hard as she could and threw the red velvet box at the closed door. She sat on the floor and hugged her knees tight.

Chapter 14

"Dr. Wilson? Is it alright if I work with Dr. Georgia for the rest of the year?" Valerie asked nervously.
"How come? Is there a problem with Dr. Styles?"
"Uh, no. I just... Maybe... I just need more experience... Dr. Georgia's technique is fascinating and I would love to learn more from her."
"Oh. Okay, I'll inform her right away."
"Thank you, Dr."

Valerie left the room and walked through the halls, hoping she wouldn't bump into Harry... Or worse.. Brie.

"Ouch! Can you please be more careful?" the patient complained as Harry tightened his grip on the patient he was examining.
"Sorry," he said.
"Ow! Let go please!"
Harry lifted both his hands and turned around to lean on the table.
"Dr. Styles, is something bothering you?" nurse Ian asked as he massaged the injured arm of the patient.
Harry shook his head and sighed.
"No, I'm fine. I'm just... having a rough week."
"You should go rest, Dr. I'll take care of this."
"Thank you nurse Ian."

Harry placed his hands in his pockets and wandered in the hallway. He stopped in the middle as he saw a familiar figure standing a few feet across him. There stood Valerie, the tension they felt even from a distance was strong and fiery.
The elevator door opened and Brie walked in between them. She saw how Harry looked at Valerie, and she raised her eyebrow. When Harry saw Brie, he shook his head.
"Hi. I'm on my break... I'll treat you to lunch?" he said as he rubbed Brie's arm. He peeked behind her and Valerie was gone.
"Uh okay," she answered.

"So about last week, sorry I bailed on you. Something came up." Harry apologized to Brie after the unfortunate change of events that past night at Valerie's apartment.
"It's fine, I left the hospital late anyway." she said but with an expressionless face.
"Harry, can we talk?" she added.
"We already are."
"No, I mean really talk. Alone. Not here in the cafeteria. Serious talk."
"About what? I don't understand..."
Brie sighed. "I know you understand exactly what I'm trying to say. Can we please have dinner tonight? Don't bail on me again."
"Okay, I promise. I'll pick you up at 8 tonight."

Harry knocked at Brie's apartment door. The door opened and Harry smiled. Brie was wearing a navy blue cocktail dress, with matching black high heels and her hair curled up.
"You look beautiful, Brie." Harry said and kissed her gently on the lips.
"You look fit yourself, Harry." she said as she pulled his necktie down a bit.

As they finished off their meal, Brie held Harry's hand on top of the table.
"Thanks for this, Harry." she whispered.
"Anytime."
"...This might be the last time, though." she whispered again, tightening her grip on his hand. Harry's eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"...What?"
"You've never looked at me the way you look at her." Brie tried to explain rubbing Harry's hand. His eyes started to get teary, and he bit his lower lip.
"I love you so much, Harry. But if I can't be the one to make you happy, I have to let you go. She's your happiness now. It does kill me to see you smiling when you're with her, but I've never seen that kind of smile when we're together.."

"I'm sorry, Brie. I love you...." Harry whispered and placed his other hand on top of hers.
"No. You loved me. But you love her. You fell in love with her, and that's fine with me. The pain will take a while to heal, but that's how life is. We had good times. Now go, run after her. I just want you to be happy."

Harry lifted her hand and kissed it as a tear fell from Brie's face. She stood up and pulled Harry in for a tight hug.
"Thank you," he whispered and he felt her nod once.

Chapter 15

Valerie packed her bags as fast as she could. She threw all the picture frames hanging on the walls in a huge box. She was crying hard, and she wanted to leave Holmes Chapel. She couldn't take the pressure anymore, she wanted to go back to the city and find a new job, see Megan, her family and just start over.

As Harry reached Valerie's apartment, he ran towards her door and knocked. He waited, but there was no answer. He looked through the window and saw the place was empty inside. Harry clenched his fists and ran outside, only to find that her car was gone too.
She's gone. Harry sat on the sidewalk and placed his palms on his face. Where would she go? He thought to himself.
His eyes widened. He rode the car and drove as fast as he could. He tried calling her, but her phone was off. He dialed Megan's number, "Where is she? Is she there?"
"....No." that was all she said, then she hung up. Harry refused to believe her and kept driving to the city.

He reached Megan's house and knocked hard.
"What are you doing here? Didn't I just tell you that she's gone?" Megan said in an angry voice.
"So she was here? Where did she go? Please Megan. I need to see her."
"Where's Brie? Didn't you propose to her a few nights ago?"
"We broke up. Megan, where is Valerie? Please." Harry begged and grabbed both her arms, tears forming in his eyes.
"Why should I tell you?"
"Because I'm in love with her! I don't know how, I don't know why. But I fell in love with her. It was something beyond my control!"
Megan's face softened and she smiled. She knew she was right.
"She went to the lake. It's 3 blocks away from here. Go get her."
"Thank you so much."
Harry ran to his car and drove away.

As he drove to the final U-Turn, he spotted Valerie's car and parked behind it.
There she was, sitting alone by the lake. Hugging her knees tight and her hair was being blown by the cold breeze. He walked quietly behind her and bit his lip nervously.

"Hi." he whispered.
"What are you doing here? How did you find me?" She realized Megan must have told him.
"...Can we talk?" he asked in a rough voice.
"There's nothing to talk about. When's the wedding?" she said, looking at the lake and not gazing at Harry.
"There's no wedding. We broke up." he said and sat beside Valerie.
She remained quiet, still not looking at Harry.
"Okay look. I'm sorry about this. I'm sorry if I hurt you in some way. I didn't want this to happen. I didn't want you leave. I love you, I wanna be with you. I'm...."
Valerie suddenly kissed Harry. He was startled and his eyes widened. She cupped both of his cheeks as the kiss got more intense. He placed his hands on the back of her head as their mouths played around each other. She felt him smile during the kiss and she bit his lower lip gently to keep things interesting.

"I wanna be with you too.." she whispered and they both smiled.

Second Chances

Chapter 1

"You have 5 seconds to let go of my hand and no one gets hurt." Zoe said.

"5... 4..."

"Can you please just listen to me? Please Zoe!!" Harry begged holding her even tighter.

"3..."

"If I let go, please don't walk away." Zoe looked down and stopped counting.

Harry loosened his grip and finally released her hand. There was silence, Harry waited for the moment she would run away, but she didn't. Her eyes met his but her eyebrows were furrowed.

"I just... You're... I wanna be with you, Zoe. You're the one I want in my life forever... If that's even possible... I love you so much... I can't.... Don't let me go... Please..." Harry said in a rough voice.

Zoe walked closer and cupped Harry's cheek to stop him from talking. She leaned in and kissed him. The kiss was intense as both of them were crying. Zoe pulled away and wiped a tear from Harry's eye. As bad as she feels, she's not the type who gives second chances because she's afraid they might just hurt her again.
She slowly started to walk away leaving Harry alone on the sidewalk.

Chapter 2

"Good morning sunshine" Liam whispered in Zoe's ear. Zoe and Liam have been dating for 3 months now. After her and Harry's dramatic break-up, she needed someone new in her life.
"Good morning babe" Zoe whispered back and turned to face Liam.
"You're up early. I'm usually the one who gets up earlier than you. What's with today?" Zoe continued as she kissed Liam on the forehead and sat up.
"It's our 3-month anniversary, remember?" Liam said and pouted because he thought she forgot.
"Oh right! Sorry! I usually count it by year anniversaries or something. Happy 3 months babe!" she said as she kissed him gently on the lips. Liam reached for his bag and pulled out a small box. He gave it to Zoe and told her to open it. Inside was a charm bracelet with Liam's initials.
"That's so sweet!! Thank you! I love you so much!!" Liam was so happy to see her smile. She rarely smiles like that.
Liam made plans for the night so while Zoe was still waiting for her hair to curl with the new rollers she bought, she decided to turn the TV on to watch the news. As she turned it on, this new facial wash commercial was on and a guy was giving a bouquet to the girl. Zoe furrowed her eyebrows, then suddenly a flashback came through:

Harry dropped off a bouquet of roses at Zoe's doorstep with a note beside it. When Zoe was about to leave her apartment she saw the flowers and raised her eyebrows. She picked it up and read the note:
"Here are 12 roses. 11 real and 1 fake. I'll love you until the last one dies. Happy anniversary sweetheart."
A tear dropped from her eye, Harry came and wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her cheek. She turned to face Harry and kissed him.
"I love you so much" was all she could say because she was overwhelmed by the surprise.

"Are you ready to go?" Liam asked from behind the couch. Zoe shook her head back to reality and nodded at Liam.
"You alright?" he asked.
"I'm fine, let me just remove these rollers then we can go. Wait for me outside, okay?"
Liam nodded and walked towards the door.

"Dude, you gotta start dating. It's been months since she left!" Niall said while they were playing Xbox at Harry's apartment.
Harry sighed and stopped playing. He stood up and walked to the kitchen to get a drink. Niall rolled his eyes and paused the game. As Harry walked back with 2 bottles of beer, he finally said "I still love her, man. I'll always love her."
"That's why you need some other girl to help you forget."
"Wouldn't that be wrong? I'm going to use her to help me forget?"
"Well, not really. Once you start to fall in love with someone else, it'll work out right!"
Harry sighed again and drank his beer. He shook his head slowly and closed his eyes, a flashback entered his mind:

"Okay, would you rather kiss me under the mistletoe or kiss me underwater?" Zoe asked Harry as she was sunbathing near the poolside.
"Um, kiss you underwater! That would be awesome!"
"Wouldn't we drown? I'm too young to die!" Zoe joked.
"You wanna find out?" Harry grabbed Zoe and dived in the pool. He held her tight and submerged deeper and finally reached for the kiss. He felt her smile. They both swam to the surface and laughed.
"Told you it would be awesome," Harry chuckled. Zoe splashed water at him and jumped on him, wrapping her legs around his waist and cupping his face with her 2 hands.

"I gotta go, man. Valerie's waiting for me at the park." Niall said.
"Oh yeah sure, okay. See you later" Harry answered sort of distracted.

Chapter 3

"How's Harry? Haven't heard from him in a while." Valerie asked.
"He's been fine, I guess. A little distracted." Niall answered.
"He misses her..."
Valerie frowned and nodded.
"Let's set him up on a blind date!" she shouted. Niall agreed on her idea and offered a high five. Valerie raised one eyebrow and pulled Niall's shirt for a kiss instead.
"You're not so good with the romantic stuff, babe" Valerie joked.
"Sorry, I'm quite new at this. Considering you're my first." She just smiled and kissed him again.

Harry's phone rang and he picked it up.
"Harry, dress up at 6pm and meet us at Nando's." Niall quickly said.
"Why? Dress up? What should I wear?"
"Something semi-formal." Niall hung-up and Harry raised his eyebrows. He wondered what was going on, but he trusted Niall so he dressed up anyway.

Harry arrived at Nando's wearing his favorite plaid shirt and a nice pair of jeans. He looked for a blonde, spiky-haired guy around the place. He spotted Niall, Valerie and a brunette sitting by the corner table.
"Hey man. This is Paige, your date for this evening." The brunette, Paige, stood up and offered a handshake. She was gorgeous. Blue eyes, nice smile with a deep dimple.
"Hi, I'm Harry Styles." he responded shaking her hand. He looked at Niall with approval and he gave him a thumbs up.
"Uh, we can't possibly have our date here at Nando's." Harry joked. Niall whispered something at Harry and he nodded.
"I'm taking you to this new restaurant called Ze Delicieux" Harry offered his arm to Paige and she smiled.

"Have you heard of this new restaurant in town? It's fine dining, I guess." Zoe asked Liam as she flipped through the pages of a magazine.
"Ze Delicieux? Yeah, I heard their cocktails are really good!" Liam answered. Zoe just nodded and kept flipping through the pages. Liam sat behind her and placed his hands on her waist.
"I'll take you on a date there tonight if you want," Liam whispered.
"We just went out a few days ago. Come on, that's too much babe." Zoe whispered back and kissed him on the cheek.
"We can just check the place and maybe get reservations, I'm curious."
Zoe rolled her eyes, "fine, we'll just look. I'm curious too."

"Table for 2 please" Harry said to the waiter as he lead them to their table.
"So where are you from?" Harry asked Paige while looking at the menu.
"I'm from the city. I'm actually Valerie's friend, we met 2 years ago at work." Paige answered.
"So you work together then?"
"Not anymore, I moved to Canada a year ago then decided to go back here."
"Wow, that's great. You look beautiful, by the way."
Paige blushed and flashed a smile. Harry smiled back and brushed her hair behind her ear.

As they were eating, Harry heard a voice from behind him.
"This place is great, what are your famous cocktails?" The voice sounded familiar, he looked back and saw her. Zoe. His mouth hung open and looked down, hoping she wouldn't see him.

"Do you still love her?" Zoe asked Harry.
"No, do you have to ask again?" Harry shrugged.
"Just making sure. Geez, you're so sensitive."
"You keep asking the same question! I'm getting sick of it!"
"Sorry! You don't have to shout!!!"
"Well, you're giving me a reason to!"
"Here we go again! I'm getting sick of us arguing about this all the time!"
"You started it! You keep asking if I still love Janet and can't get over yourself!!"
Zoe stomped his foot and walked out of the door. Harry sighed and ran after her. He caught her and held her by the waist as tight as he could.
"Please stop, I'm tired. I don't wanna argue anymore. I'm sorry." Harry whispered as soft as he could while rubbing her hands. Zoe relaxed a bit, knowing that he was still caressing her even if they're both in a rage. She sighed and turned to face Harry.
"Sorry, I keep overreacting on stuff like this. I need to trust you more, I'm so sorry baby" she whispered. Harry smiled and reached in for a kiss.

"Harry?" the voice from behind him asked. Harry felt goosebumps all over him as he turned around. Zoe smiled at him and touched his shoulder. She looked at Paige, "Oh I'm so sorry. Hi, I'm Zoe... Harry's friend. Didn't mean to disturb you guys."
"No, it's fine. I, uh, it's nice to see you..." Harry roughly said. Liam walked towards Zoe and held her waist with one hand.
"This is my boyfriend Liam. Liam, this is Harry." They both awkwardly shook hands but both acted casual about it.
"This is my date Paige," Harry introduced. There was silence for a moment and Zoe tried to break the awkwardness.
"We just came here to check the place. It's really nice. We have to go, see you... Soon?" Zoe asked eyeing Harry. He nodded and smiled. Zoe and Liam walked towards the exit and left. Harry sighed and shook his head. He looked at Paige and apologized. After their meal, Paige volunteered to take Harry someplace else.
"I know this amazing planetarium a few blocks from here." Paige said happily.
As they reached the place, Harry frowned and realized it was the planetarium where he and Zoe met.

"Did you know the next nearest star to us is the Centaurus constellation?" Harry said while Zoe was looking at the stars display.
"Interesting fact, stranger. Where'd you hear that?" Zoe said as she smiled.
"It's on the brochure," Harry answered and they both chuckled.
"And I thought you were smart!" Zoe joked.
"I am! Just not about stars. I'm Harry by the way,"
"I'm Zoe. Nice to meet you, smart guy." They both smiled and shook hands.
"I can tell you for a fact that ice cream can satisfy your tummy. Wanna get some? My treat!" Harry offered.
"Alright, but you gotta stop with those facts. Promise?"
Harry smiled and nodded.

"She's your ex, isn't she?" Paige asked.
Harry sighed and looked down. "Yeah, she is."
"And you miss her? I know you do,"
"I'm sorry, Paige. I didn't want you to get involved with this issue..."
"No, it's okay. I'm here as a friend. You can trust me,"
Harry started to talk about Zoe and how much he still loves her. Paige was rubbing his back to comfort him.
"Sorry... I shouldn't even be telling you this.. As if you care..." Harry shrugged.
Paige held his arm, "get her back. Or if that doesn't work, you both need closure. The pain will grow if you don't talk it out."
Harry reached and hugged Paige. "Thank you, and again, I'm sorry. This date was ruined. I'll make it up to you someday,"
"It's okay, I understand."

"Was that your ex?" Liam asked while driving home. Zoe nodded awkwardly. The car became silent because Liam didn't know what else to say. Zoe just decided to turn the radio on.

"Shut up Harry! You're ruining the song!" Zoe joked.
"But I love this song! Let me sing!!!" Harry shouted back and increased the volume. He started singing to Katy Perry's Teenage Dream.
"YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE I'M LIVING A TEENAGE DREAM!!!" Zoe laughed and she sang along with him. Harry opened the car windows and enjoyed the city breeze. Zoe held her hands up and sang even louder. He stopped singing and just stared at her face. She was beautiful in every way, Harry thought. Her hair through the breeze and her deep dimples showing when she laughed. When Zoe realized he stopped singing, she met his eyes and blushed.

Chapter 4

"You've been sitting there for almost an hour staring at nothing," Zoe's friend Natalie said.
"Oh, sorry. I've just been thinking about... Things."
"What things? There are so many things you can think about!"
"I saw him the other night, Nat."
"What? Who? Harry?"
Zoe nodded. "He looks different now. I just... I don't know.. He was on a date with another girl."
"Jealous? You miss him don't you?"
"No, I'm not jealous. But the girl was really pretty, though."
Natalie raised an eyebrow at her. "I repeat, you miss him don't you?"
Zoe rolled her eyes, "maybe a little. I guess I miss his cheekiness. Liam's just so serious all the time."
"You left him, remember?"
"Hey! You're supposed to make me feel better, Nat! Now I feel bad."
"Oops sorry! Uh, get him back then!"
"As if he'll forgive me. I've hurt him too much, and he looked happy with the girl he was with the other night... I think." Zoe said as she bit her lip.
Natalie rolled her eyes at Zoe, "Whatever you say, Z."

"Should I call her? No, no. Liam might find out. Maybe I should e-mail her..." Harry whispered to himself walking back and forth at Niall's house.
"Geez, Harry! Really? E-mail? What century do you live in?!" Niall joked and laughed. Harry gave him an angry look and threw a pillow at him. Niall laughed harder, "Maybe you should send her a love letter then!"
"Shut up Niall! You're not helping at all! I'm serious about this!" Harry shouted. Niall covered his mouth and tried to stop himself.
"Just call her, dude. I'm sure Liam wouldn't mind." Niall finally suggested. Harry breathed deeply and reached for his phone.

"Hello? Zoe? Hi, it's Harry." Zoe's voice mail came through and Harry decided to leave a message instead.
"Uh, hi. I guess you're at work or something. Call me back later, bye." He hung up and placed his palm on his face. Niall gave him a look and said "Let's just hope she calls back, man."

Zoe entered her apartment a little pissed because she left her phone at home that morning.
"5 messages, and 2 voice mails." She read. As she listened to the first voice mail, her mouth hung open as she recognized Harry's voice. She immediately dialed the number and called him.
"Harry?"
"Zoe! Hi! I was hoping you'd call back. Uh, how are you? Are you busy? Sorry, Liam might be there..."
"No, Liam's not here. Sorry I wasn't able to answer your call earlier. I was at work and I left my phone."
"It's fine, I'm just glad you called back." Harry still felt awkward while they were talking, but he didn't make it sound obvious.
"So... You wanna grab some lunch soon? I'm free on Friday." Zoe suggested.
"Yeah sure, I'll meet you at Nando's if that's alright?"
"Perfect. See you!" They both hung up with smiles on their faces.

Chapter 5

"Do you think she still loves him, man?" Liam asked his friend Zayn as he passed the basketball to him.
"Who are we talking about?"
"Zoe! And her ex."
"Why would you think that?"
"She saw him the other night, it looked sort of casual. But I know what happened between them... It just made me think."
"Well, do you love her?"
"Yeah, of course I do. But I'm just scared that I might not be... Enough for her, you know? I'm different from her ex."
"Well who would want someone who acts the same as their ex, dude?!"
"Adele," Liam joked and they both laughed. Zayn started singing Adele's Someone Like You and started dancing around like a ballerina. Liam kept laughing and threw the ball at Zayn.
"Seriously, though. Just ask her," Zayn suggested.
"I'd rather not. That would make me sound paranoid. I just need a sign... Or some kind of confirmation."
Zayn just nodded and twirled the ball with his thumb.

Chapter 6

Harry was in the car tapping both his hands on the steering wheel in front of Nando's. He was waiting for Zoe and as she arrived, Harry got out of his car.
"Zoe!!! Hi! Nice to see you!" Harry greeted and gave her a kiss on the cheek. He couldn't remember the day he saw her the other night, and he just realized how blooming she looked now.
"You look beautiful," he said awkwardly.
"You look fit yourself, Styles." Zoe smiled.

"So how are you? I haven't heard from you in ages!" Zoe said taking a sip of her drink.
"I'm fine, how about you? How are you and... Liam?" Harry answered and looked down at his meal.
"Uh, we're good. How are you and that girl from the other night? Paige, right?"
"Oh, uh, we're just friends. I just took her out to dinner and that was it."
"That's too bad, she's gorgeous!"
Harry smiled, "by the way, is Liam alright with this? I mean, he might get mad about us seeing each other."
"Well... He doesn't know... I just told him I'd be out with a friend..."
Harry nodded and continued eating, a little worried about the situation.

"Hey guess what? They're displaying some new art work at the planetarium tonight." Zoe said.
"Really? Sounds awesome! You wanna go?"
"Of course! That's why I'm telling you!!!" They both laughed and Zoe pinched Harry's cheek. He blushed a little and their eyes met.
"Come on, let's go."

"Did you know planets fall into 2 categories? It's either a Terrestrial Planet or a Gas Giant." Zoe explained as she was reading the poster in front of them.
"Yeah, it's on the poster." Harry said and chuckled.
"Just trying to be smart like you, Styles!" Zoe joked.
They both remembered the first time they met there and they both blushed.
"Interesting fact, stranger." Harry whispered and looked at Zoe.

Harry and Zoe went to the rooftop to gaze at the stars.
"Remember when we went here and you slipped on spilled juice on the floor?" Harry asked jerking his arm on Zoe's.
"Yeah, and it's a good thing you caught me! My face would've fell flat on the floor if you weren't there!"
Zoe and Harry reminisced about so many things that happened in the past, and it was such a laugh for both of them.
When Zoe peeked through the huge telescope, she frowned.

"See that star? That one shining bright in the middle?" Harry whispered to Zoe holding her in his arms.
"I'll name that star Zoe Styles after we get married someday," he continued. Zoe faced Harry and kissed him.
"You're the best. I love you so much," she whispered.

Harry furrowed his eyebrows and sat down. She sat down beside him and things got awkward and they started to feel tension around them.
"I'm sorry.. For everything, Harry." Zoe whispered as she held his hand. Harry nodded slowly but didn't look her in the eyes. As Harry didn't respond, Zoe started tearing up. Harry's fist was closed tight and his eyebrows were still furrowed.
"I should've... Gave you another chance... I was wrong... I just needed time.. I blame myself for everything."
She saw a tear drop from Harry's eye and she cried even harder.
"You have no idea how much I miss you, Zoe." Harry whispered in a rough voice.
Zoe was bad at handling situations like this. She was always the one who would shut up and just walk away. Her habit still hasn't changed, so she ran away until she reached an empty sidewalk. She felt weak and couldn't breathe properly. She heard footsteps running towards her, and someone held her arm.
She looked at Harry and that  killed her even more. Seeing him cry and the scenario was the same... The time that they broke up, and now this.
"If I let go, please don't walk away." he whispered. Those exact same words he said made her weaker. Zoe pulled her arm free and hugged Harry.
"I love you," she whispered.
"I've always loved you. That never changed." he whispered back.

Chapter 7

We're going down
And you can see it too
We're going down,
And you know that we're doomed, my dear
We're slow dancing in a burning room

They both were slow dancing in Zoe's apartment as the music played.
The lights were dim, and the curtains were closed. There was tension in the room, they were both crying. They were in each other's arms, Zoe's head was resting on his shoulder, and Harry's hands were on her waist.
Harry pulled away and looked her in the eyes. He wiped a tear and cupped her cheeks with both hands. He slowly caressed her face to make her feel that she's safe with him, and slowly his lips met hers. A kiss so intense, the didn't care about anyone else. All that mattered was the fact that they were together again. As the kiss lasted longer, Zoe started unbuttoning Harry's shirt, and Harry tried to unbutton her jeans. Soon, their bare skin was exposed and they were already sat on the couch.
Harry moved from her lips to her ear and down her neck, and Zoe was pulling his hair.

"Zoe?" A familiar voice came from a far.
"Oh crap," Zoe whispered. She realized it was Liam slowly entering the front door. Zoe swiftly wore her clothes as Liam switched the lights on....
Liam's mouth hung open and dropped his body bag.
"Liam, I uh..." Zoe was speechless. Harry couldn't speak either and he tried to reach for his clothes on the floor.
Liam grinned and shook his head. Zoe and Harry furrowed their eyebrows and got confused by his expression.
"Thank you," Liam said. "This was what I needed to see."
"What?!?!" Zoe and Harry shouted.
"I always knew Zoe still had feelings for you, Harry. The time when you two saw each other at the restaurant, Zoe looked at you differently. She never looked at me that way."
Zoe opened her mouth about to say something but Liam stopped her.
"Zoe, I love you and all, but I don't think I'm... The one for you. Everyday I try to make you happy, but it never seemed to satisfy me. You and Harry have this spark that we don't have. Yes, I'm hurt, but I know I'll be okay because you'll be happier in his arms."
Zoe ran to Liam and hugged him. "I'm sorry for this. And thank you." she whispered.
"I just want you to be happy, Zoe." Liam answered and hugged back.

Chapter 8 - A year later

The planetarium had a grand re-opening after renovating a few floors.
Zoe covered Harry's eyes and whispered, "hey stranger." Harry turned around and carried Zoe in his arms and kissed her gently.
"I love what they did to the place," Zoe said looking around her. Harry held her hand and smiled.
"Come on, I have something to show you."
Harry and Zoe went to the stars display and he asked her to look through the telescope. He held out a certificate as she was looking through the telescope. Written there was Zoe Styles.
"You named the star after me... But we're not married yet..." Zoe said.
Harry placed the paper in his pocket and he reached for his other pocket. He held out a small red box and knelt in front of her...
"Let's make it official then. Will you marry me?"
Zoe was overwhelmed and she nodded.
"Yes, of course I'll marry you!" She leaped on to Harry and he twirled her around. The people around them were clapping with joy as they saw the whole proposal.

Harry placed the ring on her finger and ended with a kiss.

Matchmaker (One-Shot Fanfic)

Matchmaking has always been my job ever since I entered high school. I mean, not literally my job, but I've always been helping my friends and a few mates at school with their relationships, and they always end up being together. That's why I consider myself the matchmaker. But I'm quite unlucky when it comes to my own love life. I've only had 1 real relationship and the rest were just disasters.

My name is Naomi Hart, but my friends call me Naya. I'm best friends with 4 girls named Sarah, Evanna, Lotte and Camilla. So this is my story...

"So do you guys have a prom date yet?" Sarah asked us. We all shook our heads.
"A guy from the soccer team asked me, but he's not really my type." Evanna said.
"No one hasn't even asked me yet," Lotte whispered. "Same here," I answered back. And so did Camilla. We all had our prom date issues, but for me it wasn't much of a big deal. I can go to prom alone, actually. I'm fine with that.
"Anyway, prom's still in February, and it's just December. So, is anyone going to the open party this weekend?" I asked. All 4 girls raised their right hand. "Of course we're all going! We have to! That's the biggest Christmas party of the year!" Camilla shouted.

It was the night of the party, and I wore my best red dress with matching black heels.

Lotte, Evanna and I rode a cab together and Sarah and Camilla had their own rides.
"Hey babes! You look gorgeous!" Sarah said as we walked towards each other. We saw the venue and our jaws dropped.
"Wow, this place is huge!!!" Evanna screeched.
"This is definitely going on my blog!" Sarah laughed as she took a photo of the place.
We entered the room and it was filled with loads of people. We decided to split up so we could check the place out. I headed to the bar area to sit down because my feet were killing me. I wasn't used to wearing high heels! I sat down and a really good-looking bartender approached me.
"Vas happenin? Can I get you anything?" he asked. His accent was adorable.
"No thanks. I just wanna chill." I replied. "Can I at least get your name?"
"Naomi. What's yours, sir?"
"Zayn. Zayn Malik." he said with a cute grin. Then a guy behind me greeted Zayn with a high five.
"Hey Zayn!" I realized it was my neighbor Louis Tomlinson.
"Louis! I knew I would see you here!" I said. Lou's a party animal, really. He always goes to these great parties and knows everyone in town. Louis introduced me to his other mates Niall, Harry, Liam and of course Zayn. A few of us swapped numbers and I left the bar area to go look for the girls. I found them on the dance floor having so much fun, so I let them enjoy the night. I had to leave early because I promised my mom that I would be home before 1am.

The next day I called up Sarah to apologize for leaving early. "Let me make it up to you girls! I'll play matchmaker and find you prom dates!" I surely said.
"Are you sure? That would seem unfair." Sarah answered.
"No! Fine with me! I'm willing to do it!" I hoped that I would keep my word and get them prom dates before February *gulp*.

I was on my way to the bus stop and I bumped into Louis. "Oh hi Naomi! Where are you going?" he asked.
"I'm going to the coffee shop to meet my friend Camilla. Oh, hmm. You wanna hang-out with us?"
"I'd love to!"
So Louis and I went to the coffee shop and I introduced him to Camilla. She shook his hand and Louis wouldn't let go. I raised my eyebrow, and Camilla giggled. That gave me an idea; Since I'm playing matchmaker maybe I could pair these two up and see what happens.
"Can I buy you anything, Camilla?" Louis offered. Camilla smiled and shook her head. I looked at my watch and said, "I gotta go, I have to pick up my sister from ballet class" It was the best excuse I could make so I can leave them to bond more. "Is it alright if I leave you two here?" They both nodded and I left.

When I got home Camilla texted me: You're a miracle worker, Naomi! Louis is so charming!
I answered: You're welcome! Have fun! xoxo

I was walking through the area where the party was held before and decided to call up Zayn. Luckily, he was inside the venue and I saw him by the DJ booth with headphones on.
"Last time I checked, you were a bartender." I said as I laughed.
"That's just my sideline! I'm really a DJ here."
"You're unpredictable, my friend." I joked.
"I heard your prom was going to be held here?" Zayn asked.
"Really? I didn't know that. I thought our prom was going to be at our school gym!"
"Well I found a memo confirming it." I remembered telling Zayn where I study and that's how he knew about our prom. "I received an invitation and was told that I would DJ at your prom. But there was a catch, I need to bring a prom date." he continued.
"I know someone! She's one of my closest friends. Her name's Lotte. I swear, she's gorgeous." I said and winked.
"I'd love to meet her then. I'll be here tomorrow afternoon, tell her to stop by."
And so I did. I called her immediately after I left the venue and she screamed her heart out.
"Zayn Malik is a famous DJ here in my neighborhood, silly!" she explained.
"Consider yourself lucky, miss! You're going to meet up with him tomo!" I said.

I'm pretty sure Lotte and Zayn will be psyched to be each others' dates, so Evanna and Sarah were next. I decided to plan a double date just for the fun of it. I called Liam and Niall to ask if it was okay to pair them up with my good friends. I also called the girls and told them to wear their best dresses on that special night. The fun part was that I spied on them the whole night. I sat at the corner table so they wouldn't notice me.
"I'm afraid of spoons, really." Liam said jokingly. Evanna laughed so hard and Liam smiled.
"You have the cutest laugh, babe." Liam said as he held her arm. Evanna covered her mouth and giggled.
"So Sarah, where's your favorite restaurant?" Niall asked with his adorable Irish accent.
"Nando's! Definitely Nando's!!!" Sarah said. "No way! I love Nando's as well!" Niall answered back as he gave Sarah a high five. But as her hand reached Niall's, he grabbed it then kissed it.
"I would love to take you to Nando's someday, Sarah." Niall whispered and Sarah blushed.
Job well done, I said to myself. I was satisfied to see my best friends happy.

The days went by so fast and I still didn't have a prom date. Someone knocked on my front door and as I opened it, no one was there. I looked down and found a letter on the floor:

You've done enough matchmaking, it's our turn.
Xoxo

An address below was written and I was told to go there. I knew it was Louis's handwriting, so I knew it wasn't just a fake letter. My eyebrows furrowed and wondered what these guys were up to. I went to the place where I was told to go. I had to go to the top floor of the building. As I opened the door, candles were lined up and I followed the path.

I stopped and saw a guy in a blazer holding a bouquet and he walked towards me.
"Hi, you must be Naomi. I'm Harry, Lou's friend." he said as he handed me the flowers.

"So Louis planned this, huh?" I asked as I raised my eyebrow. He giggled and nodded.
Harry was a genuinely nice guy. We talked for hours about random things.
"So I've been miss matchmaker for a while. It was fun while it lasted." I said.
"And you don't have a date yet? That really seems impossible, you're beautiful." Harry answered.
"That's sweet, really sweet. I guess I'm just not lucky." I patted his arm.
"Well if I get a yes, I may be the lucky one." he whispered. I smiled and held his face towards me. I nodded and he knew I said yes. He gave me a huge grin and hugged me.

What Makes You Beautiful: Harry and Violet (Part 2)

Violet's POV

"Harry's the flirt, just a warning V!" Louis joked. We were all hanging out at Milkshake City.

Yuri, Melody, Danielle (Liam's girlfriend), and the rest of the boys, except Zayn. Harry raised his eyebrow at Louis and suddenly grabbed and kissed me. "I'm a loyal boyfriend!" Harry said as he pushed Louis. Zayn barged in and shouted "VAS HAPPENIN!!! GUYZ, we have a new gig!"

"Really? Where?" Liam answered.
"Brighton!"
"BRIGHTON?!?!" the boys shouted in sync.
"Yeah, we have to leave tonight. We have a show next week and we have to rehearse at the venue as soon as possible" Zayn said quickly.
Harry looked worried and looked at me. I held his hand and looked him in the eyes. I gave him that don't leave me look. He kissed my forehead and whispered "I'll be back as soon as possible, promise."

Harry's POV

When Louis and I went back to our apartment, I felt bad that I had to leave Violet for a while. "Lou, did Zayn tell you how long we'll be there?" I asked. "Yeah, he said about 2 months" "2 MONTHS? Why?!" "I don't know, maybe we're going to shoot a video or something? I have no idea." Now I was really worried. Not seeing my girlfriend for 2 months is torture. I would call her everyday, but that wouldn't be enough.
I drove up to her house to say goodbye. It was one of the worst experiences ever.
"Babe, I'll call you everyday. Text you every morning and night." I whispered. She was crying. I wanted to cry. My heart was breaking and all I could do was hug her tight. "I have to go. I love you. So much. I'll be back, you know that okay?"

Violet's POV

With tears in my eyes, I was speechless. Harry was about to leave and I couldn't look at his face. Yes, it does hurt to see someone you love leave even for a short period of time. Deep inside I was telling myself to stay strong. I know he'll be back. But I was also thinking about trust. If he leaves, will he still stay faithful? I kept on hearing Louis's voice over and over when he said that Harry was a flirt. I knew he was joking, but who knows? It might be true. When he whispered I love you, I kissed him right away. It was a painful kind of kiss, the kiss that I didn't want because I know he's leaving. I stared at his car as it faded into the long, narrow road. I wiped my tears and went back inside the house.

The next day, I received a voice mail from Harry. "Good morning, beautiful. Take care of yourself. I love you." That instantly made me smile.

That was the daily routine. He called every night and greeted me every morning. It felt nice, knowing that even when he's busy or tired, he still makes time for me. But after a few days, he only calls me at night and texted me short messages in the morning. I thought "Wow, he must be really busy."

One day at Yuri's house, Melody randomly asked, "Do you trust Harry? Completely?" "Of course I do, why would you ask that?" I answered. "Because if he ever cheats on you, I'ma cut people!" We all laughed at Melody's joke. But that got me thinking, though. I'm not that paranoid, I know he's been busy so I just let the thought pass.

Harry called me up last night and said they were shooting their new music video. That was all he told me, and said he was tired. "Good night babe. Call you soon." then he hung up. He sounded strange. Not the normal Harry I used to talk to. I was having doubts.
The next morning I didn't receive a text or voice mail from Harry and I called Louis.
"Lou, are you with Harry?"
"No, I'm with Zayn and Niall. Why? Hasn't he called you?"
"Not yet. Uh, mind doing me a favor? Could you keep an eye on Harry for me? Sorry, do I sound that paranoid?"
"No, it's fine! I know you just care. Sure mate, we'll keep an eye on him"
"Thanks, and please don't tell him I called."

I didn't really hear from the boys a few days after. I was fine with that, because I know Lou and the others were keeping an eye on him.

Another lonely night for me, and my phone rang. I received an MMS message from Zayn. It was quite dark and blurry, but I knew who it was. Yup, Harry. And yes, you guessed it. With another girl. She was leaning on him, or at least that's what it looked like. I felt my heart beat faster because of how angry I was.
"So who's the girl?"
"One of our models at our music video"
"You're not shooting are you? Come on, don't mess with me Zayn."
"We finished 2 hours ago. But listen...."

I didn't listen to Zayn and hung up the phone. I sent Harry the photo with a side note saying "Lou was right, you are a flirt. Have fun, xoxo" I turned off my phone and placed it in my drawer.

I was okay after a few days, I felt fine. A bit angry and sometimes would cry when I'm alone. But luckily I got my friends to keep me distracted. "Who's this b*tch I'ma cut up? Or do you want me to cut Harry? I have a chainsaw!!" Melody said as she stood up. I didn't laugh, I just smiled and looked down. Yuri sat beside me and gave a tight hug. The girls joined and it was all fine for a while.

Harry's POV

I miss my girl. I owe her so much because I don't get to call her everyday anymore. I'm just tired and I rarely have time for her.

"So today, a few girls are going to be in the music video and you can flirt all you want!" the director said.
"Especially Harry!" Liam joked. I stuck my tongue out and laughed. While shooting Zayn's scene, the girls arrived. "This is Madison,  Lisa and Riley." one of our hair stylists said. We all gave them a warm welcome. To be honest, Madison was the most beautiful one, and when we met we instantly clicked. She was really fun to be with. She was like a sister to me, actually. But of course that's it, I have a girlfriend who I love very much.

"Okay, Harry's scene is up next!" the director announced. "Harry, you have to kiss Madison." My face went blank and the boys teased me. I got a bit pissed and gave them an angry stare. They stopped and walked away. I didn't want to disappoint Violet, but this is work. Just work, no feelings. And besides, Madison is like a sister to me anyway. So we shot the scene before it got dark

Baby you light up my world like nobody else
The way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed
But when you smile at the ground it ain't hard to tell

"Now kiss!" the director shouted from behind us. I kissed her gently. It was a long kiss, I didn't even realize how long it was.
"And cut!!!"
Madison smiled and me and I couldn't look at her. I saw Louis and Liam staring at me in disappointment. I felt bad, I even wanted to cry. "Sorry" I whispered to Madison and ran away. I ran as fast as I could and tried to find a place to hide. I cried while I was running and sat on this big rock. I grabbed my phone in my pocket and stared at my wallpaper of Violet.
"Harry? Harry are you there? Are you okay?" a voice below asked. It was Madison. She climbed up the huge rock I was sitting on and sat beside me. "Sorry about earlier, I just miss my girlfriend and I just felt like I cheated on her in some way because of our kiss." I whispered in a rough voice. "It's okay, I understand. I treat you like a brother and you treat me like a sister. That's all there is right?" Madison answered as she leaned her head on my shoulder. I didn't want to be rude, so I just let her do that. She saw the photo in my phone and said "is that her? She's beautiful."  I tried to show a little smile. I realized it was getting dark and Niall called us both. "It's time to go home, lads" he said from below. "Thank you Madison" I said as I smiled at her. I guess she was expecting for a hug, but I just couldn't anymore.

Later that night when I was about to call Violet, I received an MMS message from her. It was a dark and blurry photo of me and Madison leaning on me. with a note saying "Lou was right, you are a flirt. Have fun, xoxo" I was confused, how and who took that photo? And why did they send it to Violet? I tried to call her, but her phone was dead. Tears started forming from my eyes. I was hurt and angry at the same time. I didn't know what to do.

Violet's POV

My phone was turned off for 2 days and yes, I could survive. Good thing Harry didn't know any of the girls' numbers. As I was walking to my room, the phone rang and my mom answered.
"Hello? Who's this please? Oh, hello Louis! What? Emergency?! What accident?!" As soon as I heard the word emergency and accident I ran down the stairs and grabbed the phone. "If this is a joke, I'll hang up." I quickly said.
"No joke, Violet. Harry has been rushed to the hospital. He drove too fast and crashed."
"WHAT?! WHEN?! Why did... What..." I was shaking and couldn't believe what I heard. I got weak and dropped the phone. My mom picked it up "What happened? Where are you? We'll drive there right now" My mom pulled me up and told me to get my jacket. I felt sick and couldn't breathe right. She pushed me in the passenger seat and strapped on my seat belt. "Harry's at the Frederick General Hospital. I'll drive as quick as possible. Turn your phone on." mom commanded. When I clicked the button, I received tons of messages from Harry. They were all about what happened. I read them one by one and started crying hard again. My mom grabbed my phone and called Louis. I leaned on the car window and closed my eyes and prayed that he'll be alright. I didn't know that I was going to fall asleep, and I did. My mom woke me up and I had a terrible headache. We were in front of the emergency department and she told me to run inside. I ran as fast as I could and saw the boys at the waiting room. I felt weak again and almost fell. Louis caught me and I just cried. My eyes were already swollen. "It's my fault. It's all my fault." I whispered. Louis was hugging me and patting my back.

2am, and we were still waiting. Niall and Zayn fell asleep, Louis and Liam were talking. A doctor approached us, "he's gonna be okay." I felt relieved and we all took a deep breath and sighed.

The doctor lead us the room where Harry was. When we saw him, he had bandages on his forehead and arms. And again, I felt weaker and weaker while approaching him.
"I can't do this. I just..." I said as I backed away from the door. I couldn't enter the room. Seeing Harry like that was something I can't handle. I sat on the floor across the room and covered my face with my hands. Someone sat beside me and realized it was Harry's mom. She hugged me tight and of course I started tearing up again. "I'm so sorry, this is all my fault." I whispered. "No, no. Don't say that dear. It was an accident. It's no one's fault." she answered as she hugged me even tighter. I told her that I wasn't ready to go inside and it's okay if I stay outside alone. She stood up and asked my mom if she wanted coffee. They both left along with the other boys to grab something to eat. Liam asked if I was hungry and I shook my head. As I watched them leave, I had the courage to enter the room. 1, 2, 3 I counted shaking in fear. When I opened the door, Harry looked at me, I ran to him and we hugged tighter than ever. I could feel him crying and I just couldn't let go of him.
"I'm sorry baby. I'm so so sorry. This is my fault. I shouldn't have done that." Harry whispered.
"Tell me you weren't trying to commit suicide! Tell me!" I cried as I pulled away to look him in the eye.
"I.... I... I was.. I was drunk and depressed 'cause you weren't answering any of my messages and I miss you and I just drove carelessly and I... I'm sorry.. I'm so sorry..."
"Ssssshhhh, it's okay baby. I'm here. I forgive you. Sssshhh" I whispered hugging him tight again.
I kissed him on the forehead and he attempted to kiss me. Another painful kind of kiss but a sort of healing kiss. It was gentle, but hard for both of us.
"I love you okay, everything's going to be alright." I said.
I laid and put my arms around him, closed my eyes and fell asleep.

I suddenly woke up. I realized it was already 4:30am. Harry was still deep asleep and I moved and stood quietly and tried not to wake him up. I got off the bed and brushed his hair with my hands. I kissed him on the forehead and left the room. I walked to the lobby and saw the boys. Niall and Liam were sleeping on the couch while Louis, Zayn, Harry's mom and my mom were just waiting. "Violet! You're awake. Is Harry awake?" Louis asked. I shook my head, "he's tired. Let him sleep for a while." I told Liam to take the others home, "I'm staying. You guys go ahead. I'll keep Violet company" Louis insisted. I also told my mom and Harry's to go home too. So Louis and I were left in the lobby.
"It really is my fault. I shouldn't have over reacted and let Zayn explain the photo." I told Louis.
"Let me tell you what really happened. Zayn was supposed to tell you that the girl leaning on Harry was only a model for our music video. Yeah, she and Harry had to kiss but after that Harry cried and ran away. He felt like he cheated on you because of that kiss. That was how much he loves and misses you." Louis explained.
"Then why was she leaning on him?"
"She was only trying to comfort him. She means nothing to Harry, just another girl in a music video. But I bet the whole time he was kissing the girl, all he wanted was to kiss you."
I was tired of crying, but I couldn't help it. I started crying and Louis tried to comfort me.
"You guys didn't know that he got drunk and drove away?" I asked.
"We knew he was drinking and he got reckless, shouting your name. We tried to stop him but he grabbed my car keys and stole my car. We couldn't see the car anymore because of the fog and he was driving too fast. We all rode Liam's car and I drove as fast as I could. It was too late. The car crashed into a huge tree...."
"Okay, enough. I don't wanna hear the rest of the story." I was shaking and my hands were sweating.
"Sorry about your car..." I continued.

The next few days I took care of Harry. I slept beside him every night and fed him too. I owe him everything.
"Baby, promise me this won't happen again." I whispered as I helped him sit. He smiled and nodded. He pulled me closer to him and kissed me gently. "I promise."

The end :)
